Durante el curso escolar 2006/2007, organizado por la profesora de Inglés y tutora de 4ºA, Pilar Camacho Quintana , participamos en un proyecto para la acogida en Lebrija de alumnos americanos de Cape Cod Academy (Massachusetts). Pues bien, buscando en nuestros archivos conseguimos un vídeo de poca calidad que nos recuerda la humilde e improvisada actividad organizada por los departamentos de Inglés y Matemáticas para mostrar, entre otros aspectos, la universalidad del lenguaje matemático. Aprovechando esta enriquecedora experiencia y, con anterioridad a la llegada de nuestros invitados, los alumnos y alumnas de 4º A realizaron la traducción al inglés de la portada del sitio web del IES Bajo Guadalquivir , que reproducimos en su totalidad:
The Bajo Guadalquivir Secondary School is located in Lebrija, a town in the South-West of Sevilla. The school is made up of two buildings with two floors each. One of the buildings was built in the eighties and the most recent one in the nineties. In the beginning the school was devoted to Vocational Studies. Here a great number of professionals from the Bajo Guadalquivir region have been trained. Nowadays it has the widest educational offer in the area: Secondary Education, Baccalaureate and Vocational or Technical studies, such as Electricity, Computers and a PGS on Carpentry; besides there is an Extension Classroom where UNED can teach. Lebrija is a town in Sevilla, Andalucía, Spain. In 2005 it had a population of about 24.866 inhabitants.It stretches along 372 Km 2 and it has a density of population of about 66.8 inhabitants/ km2. Its geographical location is 36º 55¿ N, 6º 04¿ W. It has an altitud of 36 metres and it is 78 kilometres far from the capital, Sevilla.. Lebrija is Antonio de Nebrija¿s home town. He was the author of the first Spanish Grammar. The nearest towns are Las Cabezas de San Juan, Trebujena, El Cuervo, Arcos de la Frontera y Jerez de la Frontera. The inhabitants of Lebrija are called Lebrijanos. You can still see numerous remains from its Muslim history in the town centre.
